German Astronaut Alexander Gerst to command Justin from in ISS in August

The final preparation for the next METERON SUPVIS Justin ISS crew session is underway, slated for August 16 and 17. For this experiment, German Astronaut Dr. Alexander Gerst will be at the helm to command Rollin’ Justin to perform increasingly complicated tasks necessary for future planetary colony missions.

In the second ISS crew session of METERON SUPVIS Justin on March 2, 2018, NASA Astronaut Scott Tingle commanded DLR robot from orbit to perform more complex tasks in the continuing effort to advance space telerobotics technology.

METERON SUPVIS Justin cleared the European Sim checkout

METERON SUPVIS Justin cleared another major milestone last week to bring our mission to prime time on board the ISS by successfully completed the mission European Sim checkout. The checkout verified our system functional readiness for ISS-Ground experiment. This was carried out with four parties simultaneously: the European Astronaut Centre (EAC), Danish Aerospace, German Space Operations Center (GSOC)/Columbus Control Centre (Col-CC) and the DLR Robotics and Mechatronics Center.

Manned space flight mission patches have a long tradition for all space agencies. Although Justin won’t venture to space, we felt that his mission deserves a patch. This article reviews the design of the SUPVIS-JUSTIN mission patch which was developed together with Jürgen Graef from Interaktionswerk in Munich.
